About

Real running is founded by Meg McKay, Dunedin, NZ.

Kia ora, welcome!

My name is Meg McKay , I am a mother, registered nurse and run coach!

I have worked as a mental health nurse for the past five years. And I’ve been a runner for the past 25 years.

My running coaches have been inspirational, nurturing my love of life and my passion for running. Running is a community and I still enjoy sharing new insights and ideas with those coaches. I’ve combined those different coaching perspectives into my own unique coaching skill set.

As an athlete I have competed at national level in a variety of events. I have also run more than 10 half marathons and two full marathons.

My most recent achievements have been first in the Dunedin half marathon 2024 holding the course record, 1st in the Wanaka challenge women’s team and 2nd in the Cardona half marathon 2024.

I’m an experienced runner  – but mostly I run for the joy of it.

My mission is to spread that joy.

The inspiration for ‘Real Running’ comes from a desire to create opportunity for people of all ages and stages to either : get into running, improve their running or simply get more enjoyment from running.

I support people by providing realistic training schedules, motivation and support. I know first-hand the benefits regular running can bring to your life. I also understand the challenges and barriers.

I work with people at all ages and stages. I can support both beginners and experienced athletes to take their running to the next level.

Whether your goal is to run around the block or complete in the New York marathon, I can help.

Beginners

I can help people who are new to running but don’t know where to start. And remember, it’s never too late. Many of my clients are in the over 50’s age group.

Experienced

I can help experienced runners who would like to hit personal bests, run further / faster or simply want to have more energy.
